Art Attack!!!

Feeling like your art supply has been running dangerously low lately? Then have no fear! New Haven's 11th Annual City Wide Open Studios will provide a gluttenous amount of creative treats for your satisfaction.

Over the past eleven years, CWOS has drawn thousands of visitors to explore New Haven’s neighborhoods while discovering artists, galleries, and revamping perceptions of the city.
This year CWOS features one big festival weekend, October 2 – 5, activating five neighborhoods in New Haven with local artist's open studios, temporary open space studios and 15 artists-in-residence in each community.
Centrally located in downtown New Haven, Artspace hosts a main City Wide Open Studios exhibition, featuring the work of 150 artists highlighting the best CWOS has to offer. New this year will be the addition of a printed CWOS Artist Directory, featuring a full-page artist profile on each participant, available at Artspace year-round as a lasting guide to CWOS artists.

March to your own Beat.

Snow is on its way. A friend told me the mountains in Colorado already received a dusting. Kids are starting to set up rail jams and take 'snow' from the ice rinks, planning the road trips cross country to move to Mammoth, Tahoe, Colorado, etc, and trying to snake as much free gear as they can for the upcoming season. So, break out those boots from the attic, tune or de-tune that board, cut the tags off all the new gear you bought for this season or febreeze your old gear if you were like some people I know and just put it into a duffel bag after your last day and let it develop a nice, ripe stench.

I was going through a random "Shred" playlist I found on my i-pod and it made me reminisce and also laugh about some of the tunes I was bumpin' and shreddin' to down the hill and through the park. I had everything from Iron Maiden, GNR, to Eddie Murphy, 50 Cent, to Simon Rex aka Dirty Nasty's '1980'. Some of my friends can listen to trance music or all heavy metal and go nuts in the woods on powder days and go big in the park. I like a variety.

So, what about you new haven folk? What do you listen to while you shred the epic gnar? Do you like sappy chick music that makes you feel all sad and depressed to go big on those jumps? Turn up the 80's rock like Poison and wear tight pants and rock the park and become part of the scene? Listen to underground hip hop and just enjoy the shredding of the gnar? Or are you one of those kids who wears 3XL tall tee's, baggiest of pants with a jersey and become the star of your own-made up hip hop music video while you ride down the hill? WHATEVER you chose, we accept all types at enclave.
Photobucket Photobucket

And I want to know what you listen to. Maybe I'll even try it out while I'm shredding no matter what it is, we don't discriminate down here. Rock the ear buds? Skullcandy? Old school Sony headphones? You do you and whatever you gotta do to get down that hill, be epic in your own right and show off for all the kids riding up the lift over the park.
Do your thing, we support it.

Surfin' the frozen Ocean, Bro

Fall has arrived. I can feel it. I bet you can too considering it's chilly in the mornings and at night. enclave can't wait for the snow season to start... Places out in Cali are starting as soon as the end of October, jealous much? But we are interested in where you guys go in the winter. Head up to VT? Or keep it local and hit places around CT? I've done both and both have great places to shred, depending on what you are looking for.

If you are in CT and keep it local for the winter, you should check out Woodbury Ski Area (www.woodburyskiarea.com). This was one of my favorites in high school. You never had to unbuckle (unless there was a line, which was rare) and you could do endless laps with their small kickers and fun rails to hit. It's also popular in the summer and spring with their own kidney pool and an indoor section. If you want something a little bit bigger with some more options you should try Mohawk Mountain (www.mohawkmtn.com) or Powder Ridge (www.powderridgect.com). All of the above are fun places, shred-tastic and steezy enough to rock whatever gear you wanted.

Head up to VT? Tryout Mt.Snow. Super fun park and with 101 snow fans you are bound to avoid the dirt patches if the winter is weak (which I hope and pray to the snow gods it is not). www.mountsnow.com will give you all the info on tickets and season passes AND snow tubing. If you are going to make the trek up to VT also check out Okemo and Killington. Two huge mountains with fun parks. And in March, head over to Stratton and you can watch the US Open and watch the pros kill it on the hill.

Let us know where you go. What you like to shred. Park? Woods? Sit in the lodge all steezed out? Whatever! Come check out the winter gear. No Matter where you go though... it's all about having fun. And let us help you to look good while doin' it!

Shred Season has Kicked off!... Sort Of.

Hot Dogs and Handrails kicked off the 2008-2009 snowboard season out at Bear Mountain in California. It may be a little early for some to think about the season starting BUT there was snow present... and even Whistler got some snow recently. The season is not far away my friends.
For five years now, hot dogs and hand rails has started off the contest season... This year, 110 tons of snow was used for this contest. For $1,000, Scotty Vine took home the best trick award with a double back flip. Check out www.snowboard-revolution.com for some sick pics of the contest and the crowds it brought in. For the after party, Mack Dawg Productions showed both of their new movies and the local Bear movie also played.

Another contest that is always a guaranteed good time, is Volcom's Peanut Butter & Rail Jam. The PBRJ is Volcom's amateur snowboard contest with four age divisions. And you have 20 minutes to hit as many rails as many times as you want. The first location to kick off the PBRJ is Snow park in New Zealand as their season winds down. Be sure to check out Volcom's website for info on the contest and the upcoming locations in the US of A! www.volcom.com/pbrj.

Get Your Kicks Part Deuce

Speaking of kicks we thought we'd show off some of our own. For the ladies, the DC Chelsea in both purple and blue. DC knows how to take what women like about their men's shoe and add some femininity and flirt to it. They are still every bit as skateable but also perfect for everyday. Check it:

It's Business Time.

You know who you are, the kids that wear sunglasses at night. Hey, it's okay in my book but let's update that look a little bit. Everybody is rockin' the frog skins, it's time to take your own road and try something that not many people in New Haven are rockin'. That's right, I'm talking about Anon shades. (By the way, we will be carrying their goggles too in a few short weeks!)

We've got 'em for both men and women and you can wear 'em however you like. However, with names like the Hollyweird, the Contender, the Escobar and the Allnighter you might just feel the need to wear them all night. Rock 'em if you got 'em.
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
Photobucket Photobucket

Anon shades range from $75.00 (the Flasher) to $150.00 (the Escobar). We've got a whole case of them just waiting for you to try them on and give you that little edge over the rest of the crowd. And heeeeyyy while you're at it (cheesy, I know), try on a lid. We have New Eras to add to your steeze, make you stand out, or just cover up the hair that you didn't feel like combing that morning.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Hats from Mishka, AK, Analog, Burton, Matix, DVS.... Ranging from $25.95 up to $39.99 for the Mishka lids. You definitely need a hat to match with that tee you just bought... that matches with the new sneakers you just got... and so on and so on...

Thanks for the love New Haven! Keep it up! We're happy to be here!

Ladies, Ladies, Ladies....

Let's bring the focus back to the back end of the store, the women's boutique. We have had some new additions (as mentioned in a previous blog) but we haven't mentioned any of the shoes! We have Nike's, Uggs, Gravis, DC and Vans for women. So many styles, the shoes took up two tables!

Ladies, as you know the ever-popular Uggs sell very fast but we still have many sizes and colors in stock. The classics (tall and short) and the classic cardy are still in! As you have learned from the past, the Uggs sell fast. So if you are putting off buying that pair you know you want, I suggest you come down sooner then later before they're gone!

Photobucket

Check out our selection of Gravis too. Cute flats with fun twists to them to make them stand out a little bit more then the classic ballet flat. Dress 'em up or dress 'em down!
Photobucket

We have a wide selection of Vans and Roxy slip ons to choose from... Along with some bright DC's. Come down to the shop and head to the back and check 'em out. So many colors and patterns... and I bet we have something that would match with your new kicks.

digital? go Analog.

So.... New Haven, tell me what's going on. I'm liking the love I'm getting on the site and myspace.com but let us know what goes through your head in the fall and winter time. You skaters start to get bummed that the side walks will soon be slushy and covered with obstacles? Or do you get pumped that winter is coming and you can strap into your shred stick?! With this warm weather sticking around it makes it difficult to think that it's about to get cold. And you'll need a jacket. A flannel. A fleece. Gloves. Socks. Beanies. a backpack to put all of your layers in. First layer. and GUESS WHAT! enclave has it all. Come down and check out the new gear that just rolled in.

Photobucketgear has landed in enclave. Some nice solid looking sweaters, new wide belts in black and white, tee-shirts and hoodies. You can pick out a whole new outfit for the weekend in here! The stuff is pretty fresh and I haven't seen anyone else in New Haven rockin' this steeze... So if you didn't know, now you know.

Sleeper Hoodie.

How many times have you found yourself sitting in the airport because of layovers wishing you could sleep comfortably? Wishing that just for once your flights could connect properly and get you to your destination on time with all of your bags? We all wish that and fat chance of it happening on a consistent basis so we brought in Burton's Sleeper Hoodie. This is something you are going to wear every time you travel now. And for any upcoming winter trips from business to shredding, this hoodie will be your new on the go bed, jacket, comfort blanket, what have you.

The hoodie comes with an inflatable neck rest so you don't have to waste $18 on one in the over-priced marts in the airport, earplugs to keep the annoying kids voices out of your head, an eye mask, thumb holes so your sleeves won't slide up while you slumber, pit zips in case the airplane's air conditioning isn't working that day, a special pocket for your i-pod and another special inside chest pocket to keep your passport and tickets in for easy access through security! Also, an over sized hood with a flap to pull down over your face so those pesky friends of yours that are sitting next to you can't draw and doodle on your face while you get those precious minutes of shut eye.

Come on down to enclave and check 'em out. They even included a toothbrush... which helps in case they lost your luggage, again.

new stuff. new sounds.

Ohh New Haven, do we have some good stuff for you! And good news for you! So let's start off with some exciting stuff that's going on around the area. Tomorrow night at Toad's place NAS will be playing with DJ Green Lantern. He played here about a month ago and came back for an encore performance. Check out Toad's website for some other shows that are scheduled (http://www.toadsplace.com/). If you see any of us floating around there be sure to say whats up!

Now, onto the store! We put out some new things for the ladies including belts, blouses and dresses. The dresses are especially cute and can be worn with leggings... skinny jeans and a belt... or just by itself! Most of what we got in is from Quiksilver's higher-end line for women and it's different then anything they've done before so make sure you check it out. We even got some Quiksilver women's skinny jeans in that would go great with a lot of what we got in. And for the fellas, we received some Gravis shoes, Burton hoodies and belts.

Attn: Shred Heads

It's that time of year again when the snowboard flicks start popping up. The video premieres make me want winter to come tomorrow! They get us all stoked on the upcoming product, season, new tricks, new steeze, the new gear... The list goes on. I'm going to tell you a few you should take time to watch.

Mack Dawg Productions never lets you down with their videos. This year they celebrate 20 years of being the leader in snowboard films with DOUBLE DECADE. Featuring riders like; Aaron Bittner, DCP, Devun Walsh, JP Walker, Jeremy Jones and more. Also from MDP is DOWN WITH PEOPLE. Another one you don't want to miss.

Burton's movie, ITS ALWAYS SNOWING SOMEWHERE will not be a let down along with Rome Snowboards NO CORRECT WAY. The Rome guys are an interesting bunch to watch, and to hang out with. Let us know what you think. Also check out FAMILA from Finger on the Trigger productions, ALL DAY EVERY DAY from Sandbox and FORUM OR AGAINST 'EM from Forum Snowboards.

These companies have constantly put out quality films. Plus, kids on the lifts are constantly talking about video parts or trying to film their own on the hill. The videos mentioned will definitely keep you up to date with the shred heads out there. From the east to west coast we have you covered with what you should be watching. Swing by enclave and we'll have some of the new videos in soon plus winter gear is slowly making its way into the shop and filtering summer stuff out. Make sure you pick up some threads before they're all gone! This warm weather doesn't seem to want to give into fall!

One and Only!

Hello again Folks. I have some exciting news for sneaker freakers and a small sneak peak into what we are getting in the store for all you shred heads out there in New Haven and beyond. So first things first, the exciting news. enclave will be the only shop in Connecticut carrying this shoe, the Viking Hi Lx Ltd. Pro skater, Arto Saari, and Gravis shoes teamed up together to build this skate shoe. It is a limited edition shoe, only 1600 pairs are available globally and enclave will have some in stock! The Gravis skate website http://www.ivsk8.com/ has all the info on the new shoe and pictures of the team, product and more news. So when you are procrastinating and putting off doing that homework just check it out. We'll also have more Gravis footwear in. Make sure you come down and see the hotness.
Photobucket
Now for other news that is pretty exciting but not quite as exciting as the Viking Hi shoe... Snowboards! I'll give you a little taste of what we are getting in for boards and next time I'll update you on bindings and boots... All in good time my friends.

So.... snowboards for ladies, gentlemen and even those gents with bigger feet than most we have you covered. Burton made some of their most popular boards with a wide version this year so you aren't restricted and enclave will have them in stock!

Here are some to scratch that shred itch:
The Vapor: the lightest board ever made, it makes for some serious speed going down the mountain. You'll definitely want this underneath you everyday.
The Custom and Custom X: both popular boards that can take you from the back country to the park. The X being a little stiffer then the custom and also comes with the Infinite Channel System that works with any Burton binding.
The Deuce: this twin board will let you try anything from street rails to backyard kickers to ollieing over the kids who sit in front of the slow signs. Comes in a multitude of sizes, so you park riders will definitely want to check out this board.
The Supermodel: such a beautiful creation to add to the beauty of powder days. This board will take you anywhere you want to go in the woods and gives you the stability you need to cruise the gnarliest of the gnar.
The X8: a park board that gives you more then you knew you needed. For all you skaters out there looking to shred, this board will be the closest thing you can find that'll make you feel like you're cruising the streets... except on a snowboard.. in the park. The graphics on this shred stick are sick too!

And don't worry, I didn't forget about you ladies.
The Feelgood: This freestyle board will let you tear through the park or the woods. Now with the Infinite Channel System you can set your stance to any way you'd like. The feelgood gives you all the snap and stability you need for an entire season of shredding and fun.
The Troop: This board is perfect for the ladies "in the middle." From park, pow to cruisers this board will keep you stable and lets you push yourself while taking away the uneasiness that keeps you from charging at your best.
The Blender: For all the ladies who like to show the fellas up in the park, this is the board you would want. It has all the latest park technology that will help you stomp anything you decide to conquer. With rail ready edges and the new scoop nose and tail shape will help make everything smoother and let you get buttery with any slope you choose.

That's all for now folks. Just a taste of whats to come shortly and that was only a little bit from Burton! We still have Forum product to introduce. So many boards, boots and bindings to choose from no matter what type of rider you are.
Don't forget about all of our skate goods and apparel. We keep getting new stuff in daily so make sure you keep coming through and saying whats up. We enjoy all of you who have been coming through on the regular so keep it up! And keep bringing your friends!

See ya, Summer!

Summa Summa Summa time is slowly turning into a fond memory and fall is approaching. Can you feel it yet? This morning was a bit chilly down here.

BUT I do have exciting news besides a weather update! We just put out some new Mishka NYC and Volcom product. It's definitely eye catching and something you'll want for the fall. We have some great tee's with wild graphics on them, hoodies (pullovers and zip ups), and for those who like to kick it in flannel for the winter, we have some bright flannel that will catch anyone's eye. In fact, if you walk by our store on Broadway you'll see it displayed on the mannequin in the window. Stop in and check out the new stuff. Tell us what you're thinking.

Women's wear is slowly migrating into the shop but have no fear ladies, it'll be here soon. And as a lady myself, I can't wait to start sportin' the new stuff we have lined up for the shop. I broke down and bought my 1st pair of Uggs. Now I just need the cooler weather to come.... and stay!

New to snowboarding? Interested in the style? Want to learn or get some advice? Come on down to the shop. We have some Burton catalogs around we can give you to help you get a feel on some of the product we will have in. We have some snowboarding veterans that work in the shop and will offer you good advice on what to get for this years set-up. From beginners to advanced to expert, we have you covered. Plus, we can offer tips on where to go ride this winter and avoid all the joeys who crowd the slopes. As soon as the hardgoods come in I will post a blog about what we have, what size and colors... And what I think is the freshest!

Regardless, we would love to see your face down here and receive some feedback on what you think of the new digs.
No matter what though, it's all about having fun. AND lookin' good doin' it!
Here are some current pics of enclave and the new Mishka product!

We are Open!

Well, we are finally open! We hope you are as excited as we are about the shop and what we have to offer you! New Haven was missing a quality skate and snowboard shop and we think that we'll fill the void nicely. We have everything you need from the latest in skate, snow, outerwear, footwear, jeans, tees, hoodies! oh my! We even have a women's boutique in the back of the shop to give the ladies a fresh new look for the fall and upcoming winter complete with footwear. Yes, we do have Uggs for the women!

We've had plenty of people coming in here saying how much they love the shop and it is what New Haven needed. We are just as psyched as you to be here and supplying you with what you didn't know you even needed. If you have some time to kill, you can come try to beat Ben in any of the Wii games or just kick it and watch skate and snow videos on the hi-def television we have set up.

Coming in the first few weeks of October will be all of the snowboard gear. We are stoked to finally get it out there since so many of you have been coming in and asking what we will be carrying and when. We'll have the best from Burton and Forum snowboards along with Analog and Special Blend outwear plus accessories. Basically, you can buy your whole kit here at enclave and look so fressssh on the hill with the latest gear. You can also buy some DVD's if you need ideas for any new tricks to try this winter. Show 'em what you got!

Come down and check us out! We'll be updating the blog daily of what we have in and what to look forward to. We look forward to meeting you.
